Planning your wedding is an exciting time but getting the timing right can be overwhelming! If you're already feeling the pressure then you've come to the right place. Getting your bridal services booked and in the right order including trial sessions can be tricky. That's why I've decided to make it easier for you and create a timeline that includes everything from booking hair and makeup trials to scheduling your final manicure, here’s the ultimate bridal beauty timeline to keep you on track.
6-12 Months Before the Wedding
Book your hair and makeup artist. Hair and makeup artists can be fully booked up to 2 years in advance! The moment you have a date in mind, start browsing online to get a feel of exactly what you're after and start reaching out to artists who capture the vibe and look you're aiming for.
Start a skincare routine. Your artist will usually make some recommendations for skincare products and techniques in the run up to your big day but why wait? Start now by consulting with a professional aesthetician or visiting your local makeup/skincare counter to get some advice. My favourite brands for skincare include Clinque (great for sensitive skin), Clarins and Estée Lauder.
Consider hair treatments. If you plan to style or colour your hair before your big day, don't wait till last minute. Drastic cuts and colours can be jarring and may take a while to get used to. Speak with your hair stylist and get their opinion on what options you'd like to explore. If you'd like to grow your hair, opt for hair friendly products and hair masks to grow your locks long and strong.
3-6 Months Before the Wedding
Schedule your hair and makeup trial. I recommend having your trials no more than 3 months before and I prefer my brides to already have their veils and any hairpieces they plan to wear, ready to go. It's best if you have already decided on a dress too by this point as this can affect what hair style you go for. For example, if your dress is strapless, some brides prefer their hair down whereas if your dress has stunning detail in the back, wearing your hair loose could hide or detract from the design. Remember, trials are the perfect time to experiment with different ideas so don't be afraid to try different styles and finishes.
Start nail strengthening treatments. I recommend IBX to build up the strength of your natural nails. These treatments can be done in addition to your regular manicure whether you have gel or regular polish.
Arrange for any cosmetic treatments. If you're planning any teeth whitening treatments or micro-blading, get those consultations booked in. Now is also a good time to book in your manicure and pedicure. I accept nail bookings typically up to 3 months in advance, but for brides I accept bookings up to 6 months. You can browse and book your treatments today through my booking page.
1-2 Months Before the Wedding
Final hair colour and trim. Don't wait till the last minute. Freshly cut or coloured hair can be tricky to work with making it difficult for your hair stylist to get that same look you chose in your trial. It also gives you time to make any adjustments if the style or colour isn't exactly what you can in mind.
Double check bookings for yourself and your bridal party. Confirm them now to avoid any last minute panic later.
Exfoliate and moisturise regularly. Keep your skin healthy and glowing to get the best results from any spray tans (side note: be sure to communicate any spray tan plans to your makeup artist at your trial as this will affect the colour of your base. Usually, a natural finish for a spray tan will be just fine for your artist to adjust the colour of your makeup base accordingly.) and your makeup application on the big day itself!
1-2 Weeks Before the Wedding
Final brow and lash appointments. Attend your lash lift and brow shaping appointments in advance. Don't forget a spray tan if you want a golden glow.
Touch up hair colour. If needed, refresh your roots or book in a toning treatment.
Hydrate and eat well. Glowing skin starts from within so drink plenty of water and eat nourishing skin loving foods such as avocados, oily fish, dark chocolate and green tea. These will help you feel your best too!
2-3 Days Before the Wedding
Get your nails done. Time to get your manicure done and treat yourself to a relaxing luxury pedicure.
A client with a beautiful gel manicure with tiny details on the ring finger. Relax. Try to get plenty of sleep and schedule in a massage if you have the time.
Wedding Day
Stick to your skincare routine. For my brides, I usually begin with a serum anyway followed by moisturiser etc... so I ask my brides to cleanse their skin and leave it bare. If your artist doesn't prep the skin but goes straight to foundation then follow your usual routine. Don't introduce any new products as these can irritate the skin and upset the balance of oils.
Have a touch up kit ready. This is perfect for giving to a bridesmaid to keep handy throughout the day. Essentials include blotting paper, powder compact, q-tips, lipstick, gloss and a mini setting spray.
Enjoy the moment! I didn't believe it until my own wedding day but it flies by so make sure you're present for all of it. Relax, breathe and enjoy every second.
That's it! The ultimate guide to see you through the beauty planning side of your wedding preparations. Following each step will ensure you're relaxed and prepared in the run up to your big day.
